Home Tutors Tuition Fees: click here

1. How do I apply for a home tutor?

Please use the search facility of the website to find a list of tutors on our database. Using the contact details of the tutors please arrange tuition directly.

You may decide to arrange tuition with more than one tutor in order to find the best tutor suitable for your needs. Or you may choose to contact a number of tutors to have a brief chat on the phone before you arrange any lessons. We leave it up to you to decide, giving you the flexibility of negotiating the tuition fees (see recommended fees page) and tuition arrangements.

There is no limit to how many tutors you can contact, however, once lessons are agreed then please honour these agreements.

If you are not able to find a suitable tutor, you can also use our Request A Tutor. There`s also a paid service that allows you to have Home Tutors arrange a tutor on your behalf. To learn more please visit the Request a Tutor section.

2. Do I need to pay for the first meeting with the tutor?

As long as the initial lesson is spent providing a structured lesson, then the fee must be paid. However, some tutors may decide to discuss tuition needs and tuition arrangements, including their own experience and credentials, without charging for this initial meeting.

Please note, we have recommended to all our tutors that they should timetable an extra fifteen minutes (uncharged) with their first lesson in order to discuss tuition needs and tuition arrangements.

3. How are your tutors vetted?

No tutors can be truly vetted for their aptitude in tutoring until they are seen providing private tuition.

In terms of Criminal Record Check (CRC), most tutors who work with children in schools and the public sector will have a CRC. However, you can use our advanced search function to find tutors who possess CRB or those who are working in school/ college.

4. Where do lessons take place, and when?

Tuition normally takes place in the clients` home. Again, the venue is agreed between the client and the tutor.

In terms of timing, majority of lesson usually takes place during the evenings and in the weekend as most children and tutors are available at this time. However, the exact time of the tuition is mutually agreed between yourself and the tutor/s.

5. Can the tutor teach more than one pupil at the same time?

Many of the tutors are happy to teach more than one pupil at the same time. Please remember, tutors may choose to charge an additional £5 per additional pupil.

6. Are there any promotional offers? ** SPECIAL OFFERS **

Sorry, there are no offers at present.

7. Can the same tutor teach more than one subject?

Yes, but, up to key stage 2 (Primary). However, sometimes it is difficult to find teachers who have expertise in more than one or two subject areas in key stage 3 and 4 (Secondary).

8. From what age do your tutors take children for tuition?

Our tutors take children normally from the age of 6 (year 1) onwards.

9. How do I cancel a lesson?

If you wish to cancel a lesson you must give a 48 hours notice, otherwise the full fee must be paid. In cases of sudden illness or emergencies, we request that the client pays 50% of the fee as a gesture of good will. Please ring the tutor directly to re-arrange another appointment.

If the tutor cancels a lesson, the he/ she must provide an alternative time before the day for the next tuition.

10. What happens if I am not happy with one of the tutors?

If you have any serious concerns regarding any of the tutors, then please email us straight away. We will launch an investigation to resolve the matter as a matter of priority. This may result with possible suspension of tutors from our register, or we may also decide to report tutors to the authorities for gross misconduct.

If you are simply not happy with the tutor due his/ her style of tutoring, then please select another tutor from our database.

11. Is there a registration fee?

No.

12. Could I negotiate the tuition fee with the tutor?

Yes. However, we advise that the fee agreed should not be £2 above or below those recommended in the fee table. See our recommended fees table.

13. How is the fee for the tuition paid?

It is paid to the tutor by cheque or cash at the end of every tuition.

14. Are all the teachers fully qualified?

We have an abundance of qualified school teachers, both male and female, from various racial backgrounds, but we also recruit experienced graduates.

15. How can I prepare myself for the first and subsequent lessons?

If you`re the parent of the student, then please have your child`s reports and school books handy for the tutor to see. It will give the tutor a good idea of how well your child is doing in school.

We encourage parents and students to be well equiped with the right stationery and text books, including revision materials. Please contact your school for a copy of text books and revision material, otherwise visit Home Tutors Stationery & Book Shop.
